We have a huge range of other types of safety equipment, and if you’re a new sailor, or looking to make your time on the water that little bit safer, you may be wondering where to begin. We’re here to explain everything you need to know about safety equipment in order for you to decide what best suits you.
We’ll start with the fog horn. If you’re looking for something that is going to capture someone’s attention because you are in need of help, and you don’t want to spend a huge amount of money, a fog horn is the perfect piece of kit for you. We stock both a plastic manual fog horn for the small price of £8.98, along with a Trem Foghorn & canister set. We also stock an Ecoblast Foghorn, which is entirely powered by compressed air, and is not only cost effective but also environmentally friendly. These are all incredibly quick and easy to use and will emit a huge blast of ‘super sonar’ sound to alert other in the thickest of fog.
Another product that would be useful to have out at sea would be a torch. We stock only the toughest, most waterproof torches around. The Coast Polysteel PS200 is a hardworking, strong yet small LED torch with a stainless steel core and poly resin outer coating, which protects the torch from impact, dusty conditions and extreme temperatures, retailing at £27.95. We also stock the Coast TX10 4 Colour which is ideal for the use of signalling for help. It’s pocket sized in a hard wearing anodised aluminium case which is designed to be impact and weather resistant, which is £29.95. If you’re looking for something larger and more powerful, you may be more interested either the PS600 or the PS1000 LED torches. These torches are pretty much unbreakable, and the beams of light reach between an incredible 234 – 351 metres. The PS1000 includes 3 power levels to suit the time of day and reason you may need to use it!
Safety equipment that is necessary for commercial vessels include a grab bag. The McMurdo grab bags we stock include an external EPIRB pouch and flare stowage pockets, and is large enough to carry other necessary equipment on larger boats, such as VHF radios, important documents, rations etc. Another important piece of equipment for liferafts and small co mmercial vessels is a first aid kit. This first aid kit includes everything from ant-sea sickness tablets and antiseptic wipes to disposable non-latex gloves and safety pins.
